Deposit
The payment policy of a rate plan, what a guest pays when booking, and the reminder for what is outstanding.
A deposit is the share of the total that a guest pays up front. In Noren that choice belongs to a rate plan, and the reminder belongs to your guest mails.
Where you set it
For the base rate, the rate your booking engine offers:
- Open Rates.
- Under "Cancellation policy", per room type, choose "Pay in full up front", "Deposit" or "Card guarantee" under "Payment policy".
- With "Deposit", choose a percentage under "How much up front".
- Click "Save policy".
Every room type starts with a 30% deposit. A derived plan has its own payment policy: click "Edit" there, or create one with "Add derived plan", and click "Save".
What the guest pays when booking
With "Deposit", a guest who books through your booking engine pays only that percentage of the total when booking, at your payment provider. The pay button names that amount, and below it is what they pay later. The rest stays on the booking as the outstanding amount; the confirmation mail and the confirmation page name it, in the guest's language. With "Pay in full up front" they pay everything. The room is only theirs once that first payment is in.
"Card guarantee" is not available yet: the guest still pays the full amount when booking.
As long as no real payment provider is connected, the connection is a practice one and no money changes hands. The practice payment page then says which part is the deposit.
What is outstanding
On the "Overview" tab of a booking you see "Total" and "Outstanding". A payment at the desk or by bank transfer goes on the "Payments" tab with "Register a payment"; the outstanding amount then goes down.
The reminder
The "Deposit reminder" mail goes out fourteen days before arrival, only if something is outstanding. It names the full outstanding amount and has a button to pay. On Guest mails you change the text with "Edit the text" or turn it off with "Switch off". While your property is in "Paused state", no automatic mails go out.
Cancelling
If a guest cancels later than "Free cancellation until (days before arrival)", the percentage under "Charged after that" applies. Noren works it out on the total, not on what the guest already paid, and anything they paid beyond that comes back to them.
