VAT
How Noren works out VAT per line and per night, and where the rate comes from.
Every price in Noren includes VAT: that is how a guest sees it, and how you enter it. The VAT is taken out of each line, never added on top. At 10%, €110.00 contains €10.00 of VAT.
Where the rate comes from
The rate follows from the country of your property, which you fill in under "Country" on Your property. For each country Noren knows a rate for accommodation and one per type of service: food, drinks, transport, parking, spa and wellness, and other. In Spain accommodation is 10% and every type of service is for now at 21%, the rate extras always had; which rate belongs to which type is being checked by a tax adviser.
You do not change those rates yourself. We keep them up to date, each with the day it starts. When a rate changes, a new rate is added with a later start date, and whatever was already booked stays as it was.
Per night
Each night gets the rate that applies on that night. If a change falls in the middle of a stay, on 1 January for example, the accommodation shows as two lines on the bill, each with its own nights and its own rate.
Per line
- Accommodation: the country's accommodation rate, per night.
- Extras: the rate under "VAT rate" for the item on Extras. Leave it empty and the country's rate for its "Type of service" applies, on the day the item is delivered. When you put an item on the bill at the desk, that day is today.
- Included in a rate: breakfast, spa or parking that is part of a rate's price (see Rates) goes on the bill as its own line, with the rate for its type on each night. The room line keeps the rest of the price, at the accommodation rate.
- City tax: always its own line with its own rate, never part of the accommodation price.
- Free line: the rate you type yourself under "VAT %" on the bill. The field starts at the extras rate of your property's country, and the hint below it names that country's rates. See Bill.
The bill shows the rate next to each line, for example 10% VAT.
Good to know
- There are rates for Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, France and Germany.
- A type of service without a rate in your property's country gives no price: Noren does not fall back on another rate.
- A property in a country without a rate gets no price. The booking engine then tells the guest that the property cannot give a price right now, and we see it in our overview. Noren never quietly uses another country's rate.
- The VAT on your Noren subscription is a separate matter. See Subscription.
